LIBRARY
Library Resources and Services
DMDEA houses an extensive and well-curated library, offering an excellent collection of 1,176 books and 80 journals, including 59 international and 21 national titles. In addition to print resources, the library provides access to a wide range of non-book materials covering key areas such as Diabetes, Ocular Research, Food, Nutrition and Dietetics, Cell and Molecular Biology, Molecular Genetics, Epidemiology, and other diabetes-related complications.
The mission of the library is to deliver high-quality information services and provide seamless access to both bibliographic and full-text digital and print resources, supporting the scholarly, academic, and informational needs of its users.
Library Automation and Digital Access
The library is fully automated using the KOHA open-source software, an integrated, multi-user library management system that supports all in-house operations. KOHA includes comprehensive modules for acquisitions, cataloguing, circulation, serials management, article indexing, and the OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue).
The retrospective conversion of bibliographic records has been successfully completed, and over 1,176 book records are now accessible through the KOHA OPAC. The complete book database is also available for consultation within the library premises.
Open Access Research Repository
Eprints@MDRF is the open-access institutional repository of the Madras Diabetes Research Foundation (MDRF), a sister institution of DMDEA. This repository hosts a wide range of research outputs, including journal articles, conference papers, research reports, theses, and patents, which are uploaded or self-archived by researchers.
Most documents are freely accessible and available for full-text download, allowing users to download and utilise the research without restriction. For materials where direct full-text access is limited, users may submit a ‘Request Copy’ form to obtain the required document.
